Through community service and the affective education program our students are encouraged
to explore their role in the wider community beyond Latin.
They are active participants in homeroom, grade-level, and individual outreach
efforts, whether it is raising funds to purchase a cow for a village in a developing
country, visiting residents of a nearby nursing home, or organizing a collection
drive for school supplies. Each year our sixth graders are reading “buddies” and
mentors for younger students at a struggling Chicago Public School, our seventh
graders participate in service projects related to a region or culture they study
in their World Cultures curriculum, and our eighth graders raise funds for a good
cause by preparing dinner during Middle School Festival Night.
