Latin makes every effort to supplement classroom study with resources available outside the class and outside the school.
The entire Lower School curriculum is enhanced by learning tools available
in the computer, science, and math labs; the art room; and the library.
In conjunction with classroom study, students take field trips during
the school year. Weekly assemblies, visits from artists and authors, community
service projects, and participation in school-wide events assure a stimulating
learning experience for each child.
All students make regular classroom visits to the library and are encouraged to be
frequent visitors before and after school. In addition to library skills,
the library faculty emphasizes reading and literature appreciation.
While computer-based learning is closely monitored for appropriateness in the Lower School,
its thoughtful use greatly enhances our students academic preparation.
There are computers in the science, math, language, and computer labs,
and every classroom has computers with multimedia capabilities and direct
access to both the Internet and the Schools intranet. Activities
that introduce students to technology and its effective use include work
with digital cameras and collaborative Internet projects with other schools.
To ensure that all our students have a just opportunity to develop their academic
potential, Latin provides a Learning Resource Center with specially trained
teachers who focus their attention on students with diagnosed learning
differences.
