Libraries: Lower School Mabel Slade Vickery Library: Library Use
Our library program is an extension of the classroom experience and is the heart of many instructional and research activities in the School. During the school day students and teachers may visit the library on their own or in groups of various sizes. Our library has four rooms that provide space for a variety of activities.

The librarians arrange a formal library program for all students in grades JK-5. These scheduled weekly visits are typically 20-40 minute periods depending on the grade level. During these sessions the librarians share prose and poetry, teach library and research skills, and initiate activities to apply and reinforce skills taught in the classroom. The librarians encourage students, teachers, and parents to visit the library to select materials for pleasure reading, for research, for assignments, and to satisfy natural (and encouraged) curiosity. Our goal is to encourage lifelong reading and learning.

Circulation
The library has a computerized catalog program and automated circulation system. All library materials are circulated for a loan period of two weeks.

Fines are not issued for late materials, but students are asked to pay the replacement cost of materials lost or damaged beyond repair.
