Libraries: Lower School Mabel Slade Vickery Library
Welcome to the Mabel Slade Vickery Library, conveniently located on the first floor of the Lower School. Our goal is to support the Lower School curriculum by providing essential resources and services to students, faculty, staff, and parents of The Latin School community. We share a wealth of literature and offer research instruction and services to individual students and classes.

Choosing the bookLibrary Hours:
Monday, Wednesday - Friday: 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 8:00a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Library Hours For Visitors:
Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m.-8:20 a.m., Early Morning Library

Students may come to the library in the morning accompanied by a parent or guardian. Otherwise, students are encouraged to ask the teacher on door duty for a Library pass to come to Early Morning Library on their own. Library Passes are limited, so get them right at 8:00!

Monday, Thursday-Friday: 2:30p.m.-2:50p.m. and 3:20p.m.-3:30p.m.

On these days in the afternoon, students and family members are welcome in the library to return or borrow materials. While these hours are short, they are meant to coincide with both dismissal times and allow adequate opportunity to return or check out a book. There are no afternoon library hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Library Numbers:
Each Lower School student and faculty member is assigned a library number to be used when borrowing materials. As early as SK, students begin using their numbers to check out library materials independently. While students are quick to memorize their library numbers, that information is readily available should they forget.

Library Holdings:
Student reaches for bookLatin’s Lower School Library houses more than 16,000 print materials, including more than 4,000 picture books. We also hold more than 400 videocassette and DVD materials. The library subscribes to the two major Chicago daily newspapers and has a running subscription to 40 magazines and journals. In addition to several journals on education, the library makes available to faculty members and parents a professional library consisting of materials on education and childcare.
