Head's Welcome
Dear Friends,

Donald W. FirkeWelcome to the Internet home of The Latin School of Chicago, an active and involved community of teachers and learners in the heart of the Midwest.

Our students - 1085 in junior kindergarten through grade twelve who come from all over the Chicago area - benefit from a long tradition of excellence in education that began in 1888 and grows stronger every year. Our teachers are among the best in the country, and include world class scientists, published writers, professional artists, innovative mathematicians, and talented athletes, all of whom are absolutely dedicated to the education and healthy development of children.

We invite you to visit our School through this website and at our location near Lincoln Park on Chicago's Near North Side. Be sure to check out our extensive Upper School course offerings, our lists of athletic accomplishments, and our performing arts web pages. If you are looking for a stimulating educational experience and a school that encourages its students to develop their interests without limits, Latin may be the place you are seeking.

When students join Latin, they join a tradition that has nurtured state and national champions in sports and academic competitions, leaders in politics, academia, and the arts, world class chess players, accomplished artists and writers, and numerous students recognized in National Merit competition. But most important, they join a community of intelligent, compassionate people, ready to make their mark in the world.

We look forward to meeting with you personally, and thank you for your interest in our school.

Sincerely,

Donald W. Firke
Head of School
