Lower School Integrates Art and Technology: The Sky's the Limit

After all of the excitement surrounding the recent solar eclipse, our lower school students have been very interested in what's going on in the sky.

The organization Only One Sky developed the Sky Day project to raise awareness among students about protecting our atmosphere and our air. LS Art Teachers Brenda Friedman and Rene Moreno collaborated with LS technology experts, Fiona Deeney and Chris Eustice, on utilizing technology to create art. Throughout the week of September 18-22, our students in grades 1-4 stepped outside to capture the beauty of the sky on their iPads. The organization collected the students' digital photos via Twitter and displayed them at the Alder Planetarium over the weekend and on their website skydayproject.org. You can filter the photos to only show ones from Latin School of Chicago by clicking the "Make it yours" button. Our third and fourth graders also painted sky murals in art class, which will be displayed at the lower school.
